Another good question

If it was "racist" and "divisive" of Geraldine Ferraro to say that Barack Obama's candidacy wouldn't have gotten as far as it has if he wasn't Black, why was the now-late Howard Metzenbaum tolerated when he tried racist smears against a liberal Black witness testifying on behalf of Clarence Thomas at Thomas' confirmation hearing?

It couldn't be because Thomas is a conservative Republican and had strayed from the "liberal plantation" on which Democrats try to keep Blacks, could it, while any criticism of Obama the liberal Democrat puts the African-American vote at risk?

Nah. Democrats couldn't be that cynical.

(And, if you believe that one....)

UPDATE: John Doggett, the witness mentioned above, later became a conservative and wrote a scathing critique of how modern liberalism treats people as if they were commodities; like groups, not individuals. (via Ed Morrissey)
