Hypocrisy, thy name is "Bill Keller"

Yesterday, the once-respectable New York Times ran a hit piece on John McCain alleging, among other things, that he'd had an affair with a lobbyist about ten years ago. McCain, of course, denied it. The general reaction, even among some liberal columnists, has been that the story was a poorly-sourced smear job, something sadly typical of the Times these days.

Here's something both interesting and illuminating, however: Guess who really had the affair?

That's a pretty impressive accomplishment by the "paper of record:" It's managed to both humiliate itself and mend fences between movement conservatives and McCain. Who says hypocrisy does no good?

(hat tip: PJM)

UPDATE: Even the liberal Seattle Post-Intelligencer refused to run the NYT's smear job. Their editor explains why. (via Captain's Quarters)

UPDATE II: Even the NYT's own public editor lambastes Keller.
