I knew she wouldn't stay retired for long! Having gone home to sulk after realizing the Hard Left and the anti-war Democrats really didn't give a damn about her and her self-indulgent crusade, Cindy Sheehan is back, this time threatening to run against Nancy Pelosi in the next election, because, in Mother Sheehan's opinion, Nancy has been too reluctant to pursue the impeachment of President Bush:
Cindy Sheehan, the soldier's mother who galvanized the anti-war movement, said Sunday that she plans to seek House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat unless she introduces articles of impeachment against President Bush in the next two weeks.
Sheehan said she will run against the San Francisco Democrat in 2008 as an independent if Pelosi does not seek by July 23 to impeach Bush. That's when Sheehan and her supporters are to arrive in Washington, D.C., after a 13-day caravan and walking tour starting next week from the group's war protest site near Bush's Crawford ranch.
"Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership," Sheehan told The Associated Press. "We hired them to bring an end to the war. I'm not too far from San Francisco, so it wouldn't be too big of a move for me. I would give her a run for her money."
Messages left with Pelosi's staff were not immediately returned. The White House declined to comment on Sheehan's plans.
The White House is probably too busy laughing to comment. I could say something about these two deserving each other, or about La Nancita reaping what she helped to sow, or about Mother Sheehan indulging her narcissism again, but I won't.
Instead, this is just another pathetic moment in the anti-war movement's war on its own country, a bit of farce as the Frankenstein's monster they created now turns on its creators. No longer basking in the limelight and hearing the sycophantic praise from those who used her as a stalking horse to attack Bush and delegitimize the war, she's found the one sure way to get herself in the news again: launch her own jihad against those abandoned her, who aren't pure enough in their devotion to the Cause.
This should be worth some amusement for a few months, until Cindy and her co-lunatics realize she'll never defeat Pelosi: that old pol has her district sewn up tighter than a miser's purse, and she'll swat Mother Sheehan for daring to challenge her. Then Cindy will go back to her deserved obscurity, to grumble and mutter against those who betrayed her -- between paid appearances at left-wing bookstores, of course.
