Let's just call it a civil war, OK? -- UPDATED
Even the dinosaur media can't avoid calling the fighting in the Palestinian territories a "civil war," try as they might:
Deadly fighting drives Gaza closer to civil war
GAZA CITY (AFP) - Hamas fighters armed with guns and rocket launchers besieged two Fatah security headquarters on Tuesday as deadly clashes threatened to topple the government and drive Gaza closer to civil war.
Gunmen from the radical Islamist movement ambushed two seats of the Fatah loyalist national security -- the main Palestinian security force -- in Gaza City and Jabaliya provoking clashes with those holed up inside.
Security officials and witnesses said Hamas gunmen quickly abandoned the fight at the Gaza City base where security officers repelled them from storming inside, but that fighting was continuing at the larger base in Jabaliya.
Hamas's armed Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades unilaterally declared "the northern Gaza Strip a closed military zone" under its control and called on members of the mainstream Fatah loyalist security forces to stay at home.
The attacks came after mortar shells slammed into prime minister Ismail Haniya's home and the seafront compound of president Mahmud Abbas in the latest bout of fighting that has killed 18 people in 24 hours.
"Tensions" have been "rising" for as long as I can remember, and any "truce" between these terrorist gangs breaks down within days, if not hours. Yet the mainstream media can't call a spade a spade: it's a civil war, stupid! There is no central authority, and rival factions are trying to seize the whole kabob for themselves. It's been that way since the Palestinian people (and let's be honest about who bears ultimate responsibility here) elected a Islamist, genocidal, fascist terrorist organization --Hamas-- over a secular, genocidal, fascist terrorist organization --Fatah. Since the day the Israelis pulled out of Gaza, both sides have shown clearly what they do when given power, but the mainstream media refuses to acknowledge it, preferring to blame Israel for everything.
Let's give them a state of their own, shall we?

UPDATE: Looks like the AFP and other MSM outlets will have to tap faster, as Captain Ed reports that Hamas has attacked Palestinian Authority bases in Gaza and captured several, taking control of northern Gaza. Fatah in return, has threatened to withdraw from the government (such as it is), which would lead to the PA's collapse. Ed wonders if this will finally wake up the Palestinians to renounce terrorism.
I doubt it. The Palestinians seem to be the most singularly dedicated to cultural suicide of all Arab societies.
