Cindy Sheehan pouts, goes home
Not feeling the love from Democrats anymore, "Mother" Sheehan has resigned as the "face" of the moonbat anti-war movement and quit the Democratic Party:
Announcing her decision on Memorial Day, the anniversary on which the US remembers its war dead, she said that her announcement had been prompted by the recent hostility she had faced from Democrats.
"I was the darling of the so-called left as long as I limited my protests to George Bush and the Republican party," she wrote. "However, when I started to hold the Democratic party to the same standards that I held the Republican party, support for my cause started to erode, and the 'left' started labelling me with the same slurs that the right used."
The snarky side of me thinks the Democrats just finally opened their eyes to what a fool she is. I'm willing to bet Howard Dean breathed a sigh of relief at the news.
Don't get me wrong: Sheehan deserves the respect and tolerance we grant any grieving parent. However, that respect and tolerance is not limitless, and she passed those limits long ago.
In the last three years, she has become not just the "face of the anti-war movement," but an icon of the radical Left that treats a bunch of mass-murdering theocratic fascists as the moral equals or superiors of Western civilization. She's made common cause and shared abrazos with anti-democratic dictators like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. A "progressive" isolationist who thinks her own country is the root of all that's wrong in the world, she's reveled in the attention the Far Left has given her, exploiting her son's death to keep it coming.
Now she's upset that Democrats in Congress have recognized political reality: the American public won't put up with de-funding an army in the field, nor setting timetables for surrender. So they did the only thing they could and reached a compromise.
That's not good enough for Mother Sheehan. Since the Democrats won't hew to the radical, defeatist anti-war agenda, she's going to pick up her toys and go home.
Don't expect her to stay there long. Her ego won't permit it.
ADDENDUM: Check the temperature in Hell, there is one point where Cindy Sheehan and I agree:
"I have tried ever since [her son] died to make his sacrifice meaningful," she wrote. "Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months."
She's right there. For a myriad of reasons, people would rather obsess over the tribulations of ill-behaved celebrities than face the real dangers of the world today. She and I just disagree on what those dangers are.
LINKS: Captain Ed hopes her "retirement" will help her find some balance. I doubt it. Rick Moran at Right Wing Nut House saw this coming from way off. Sister Toldjah chides her for relying on the absolute moral authority card, but thinks the anti-war movement still controls the Democratic party. Little Green Footballs has even less sympathy than I, while The Anchoress administers tough love. Tammy Bruce translates Cindy for the audience. I should have included this earlier, but here's a link to the self-absorbed Cindy's "resignation letter" at that temple of Moonbattiness, The Daily Kos: Good Riddance Attention Whore. (Her words, not mine.)
