Democrats, their allies in the mainstream media, and some Republicans are screaming bloody murder over the firing of eight US Attorneys by Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales. It seems like little more than faux-outrage to me, since US Attorneys are political appointees who serve at the pleasure of the president and can be fired for any reason at any time.
This looks like another non-scandal, just like the three-year furor over the "outing" of (non-)covert agent Valerie Plame. It's an excuse for the administration's foes to make some political hay and divert attention from Iraq, where Bush's strategy appears to be succeeding. Paul Mirengoff at Power Line has his doubts, too, and suggests we wait for the facts.
I doubt that will happen, however. In fact, I suspect the countdown to yet another special prosecutor to waste the public's time and money has already begun.
