Friday Links

Blogging will be light for the next 2-3 days, as I have a lot of writing to do. I want to leave you with some interesting links for the day, however.

First, it's almost Veterans Day. From Bunker Hill to Falluja, from Antietam to Coral Sea, from Chateau Thierry to Hue, the American soldier, sailor, marine, airman, and Coast Guardsman has been in the forefront of the fight for human liberty. Many come back from war gravely wounded; they need our help. One way to remember and honor them is to donate to various causes that support Veterans in their recovery. Soldiers' Angels is one such worthy project. I encourage you to take a look and, if you can, donate.

In Indonesia, some jihadists are on trial for beheading Christian schoolgirls, which they thought would make fine trophies. Meanwhile, you'll be excited to know al Qaeda has released a new audio tape. No, it's not a message of congratulations to Speaker-to-be Pelosi and "Responsible Redeployment" Murtha, but a message to the world that their aim is to impose sharia rule in Iraq. And blow up the White House. The rest of world comes later. Religion of Peace, anyone?

If you're curious about the (worsening) course of the war in Pakistan, have a look at the Council on Foreign Relations study of the Pakistan tribal regions, linked to by Bill Roggio. Pakistan has always been a shaky ally of the US in this war: an Islamist takeover in this nuclear-armed state is something we should be very worried about.

In the aftermath of the election, Lance Thompson of LowDown Central has a hard-nosed message for Republicans that would make Barry Goldwater proud.

Reaching deep into the depths of silliness and drawing forth a big one, Germany's top prosecutor will seek indictments against former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez for war crimes relating to the treatment of prisoners at abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. Are there any responsible adults left in Europe? (Update: Believe it or not, Michelle Malkin says to calm down.)

Speaking of Rummy, Victor Davis Hanson offers his thoughts on the former SecDef and other matters at Works and Days: Be careful what you wish for.

From the Department of Stuck On Stupid: While the Republicans did a bunch of dumb things to guarantee losing the recent election, the Democrats seem to have a positive death wish, a desire to go the way of the Whigs and the Federalists. From Tigerhawk come word that George McGovern plans to consult with Democrats on how to get out of Iraq. Yes, they want to take advice from the man who said he would have crawled on his knees to Hanoi to secure peace. If they carry this out, I guarantee a Republican sweep of the House, Senate, and White House in 2008.

That's all for now, folks!
